Meta tags: We have a free meta tag generator here.

Title tag: This is the place to put a short description (using a keyword) of what your web page is about.

Almost all Search Engines use the title tag as part of their criteria for Search Engine Submission.

Most people waste this spot by putting the word "homepage " or leaving it blank. I recommend about 50 characters max & working your most important keyword or keyword phrase into the title. The title should make sense to anyone that reads it & not just be a list of keywords.

Here is our title tag "Search Engine Submission Service,  Search Engine Submission Tips"

This is our example of a short descriptive title tag.

Description Tag: This tag can be up to 255 characters.

This is basically a paragraph telling what your site or page is about. This tag is very important as this is what the your potential customer will see when he searches for your site using a search engine. Even if you have a #1 ranking you still need a good clear description to get the customer to choose your link from a search engine.

Work 2-3 of your most important keywords or keyword phrases into the paragraph.

Here is a sample description:

"Web site submission and promotion. Our search engine submission service brings webmasters more traffic. Submit your web site to over 600,000 search engines and directories for $23.99 for a year.. Don't wait submit your site, get a search engine listing."

Keywords:

These are very important. Think of all the words or phrases someone might use to search for your site. If you sell acme widgets use the keyword "acme widgets" Also use the phrase in the title of your acme widgets page & the description of that page.

Here is some sample keywords:

"search engine submission service, keyword submission, website submissions, search engine submission, web site submission, free meta tag generator, url submission, submit to search engines, web site promotion, submit url, website submission, Search Engine Submission, web site submission, submit keywords, search engine submissions, keyword ranking, search engine listing,"

A clean simple page will be easier for Search Engine robots to index. The use of Flash & javascript may confuse the robot & make the page slow to load. I like to keep pages simple & able to be viewed by anyone.

Graphics:

Always put an alt description tag for graphics. Some search engines use these tags.

Text:

I highly recommend putting meaningful text, (not just repeating your keywords) on your page. If you are selling acme widgets put in something like "acme widgets come in 3 sizes, acme widgets were first imported in 1959" You have to tell the search engine your site has useful information about acme widgets.

Some things to avoid:

Spamming the search engines. I know of one person who paid several sites for web site submission for her web site to search engines at about the same time. This is not only a waste of money it will also get you known as a spammer & guarantee you will never get a search engine listing. Don't over submit. I use a database & filters to make sure I never over submit your site

Doorway pages: Most search engines will ban you if you use an entrance page that will not normally be used by regular visitors. It used to be you could make several different pages & optimize each one for a different search engine. Don't do that it will  get you banned or at least get your search engine listing to drop.

Don't just copy some other sites meta tags. The highly ranked web sites all monitor their Search Engine Submissions & their competitors. When they find that you have copied their work & moved up in the search engine listings you will be contacted by their legal department. Our free meta tag generator is here.
